Attacking on Multiple Fronts
This concept is pretty important.
Discipline is not enough. Will power is not enough. A method is not enough.
Nothing is enough on its own, we need to have multiple tools, our determination must rest on more than one leg for stability, like a stool.
We don’t need to employ them all at once, but each situation will call for a different tool, or a particular combination of them.
For example you might feel the urge in low intensity while you’re in a setting that wouldn’t allow you to express it. You might feel safe because social standards prohibit you from indulging, but in that moment you might be planting a seed for it to spawn later. So right there you might remind yourself of the 7-steps and perform an abridged version of it.
Or the reverse case, you might be at home and feel the urge coming in strong, and you proceed to execute the 7 steps but you know it won’t be enough, so you decide to text a friend and arrange a meeting for that same day, or put on clothes to go outside for a walk.
I will give a list of different tools that have helped me, ideally you’ll make your own, with every item considered, examined, and put into practice. Otherwise a simple list can get overwhelming and easy to ignore.
